Last October 4, the “VOLT – VOLcanoes as Teachers” project was officially launched with an online kick-off meeting.
Co-funded by the European Erasmus+ program, the VOLT project aims to promote new learning opportunities for middle and elementary school students through the development of interdisciplinary teaching, training and research activities on the topic of volcanology.
VOLT involves the development of a volcanology training course dedicated to teachers in three European schools. The training will then be aimed at students’ acquisition of cross-curricular skills through the empirical study of three volcanic areas in Europe. The project will be enriched by a time of travel and knowledge exchange between students and teachers from the partner schools, and will conclude with the students’ production of a documentary that will testify to their learning about the volcanological phenomenon
The project’s lead partner is the Municipality of Farnese/Riserva del Lamone and counts the participation of five other partners from four European countries: three primary and middle schools (Albero della Tuscia in Italy, Stapaskoli in Iceland, Kos Primary School in Greece), a volcanology training organization (Associazione Italiana di Vulcanologia, from Italy) and a European network for the promotion of innovative and sustainable education (QUEST, from Belgium).
The kick-off meeting brought together the project partners to establish a coordinated approach and lay the groundwork for the development of activities and the realization of planned objectives. Discussions focused on key topics on project management, including objectives, task distribution, budget management, and communication strategies. Particular attention was given to Work Package 2 (WP2) dedicated to online training on volcanology for teachers from partner schools, with the definition of the topics to be addressed and the scheduling of training sessions.
The meeting was a significant moment to ensure the future quality and efficiency of the project. It allowed the partners to get to know each other, align their efforts and establish a solid foundation for the implementation of the project goals through a collaborative spirit and shared commitment.
The website with all the information on project activities will be available online soon. At present, for more information, you can write to voltproject.info@gmail.com
